Common questions

Before you book

How much does it cost to charter a superyacht?

A crewed superyacht runs roughly $1,500–$3,500 per guest per week as the base rate. Add APA of 20–35%, VAT of 5–20%, and a crew tip of 5–15%, so a $50,000 week lands near $62,500–$80,000 all-in.

What is APA on a yacht charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is an upfront pot, usually 20–35% of the base rate, that covers fuel, food, drinks, and dockage. The captain reconciles it with receipts, and unspent amounts are refunded.

Do I need a license to charter a boat?

For a bareboat charter, yes in most markets — an ICC, RYA Day Skipper, or ASA 104 resume. For a crewed or skippered charter, no; a professional skipper costs roughly $1,200–$2,000/week on smaller yachts.

Is chartering cheaper than owning a yacht?

Usually. Ownership runs about 10% of hull value per year before depreciation. For 4–8 weeks of annual use, an all-in charter week is nearly always the cheaper line.

How we work

Numbers first, broker links second.

Every guide starts with the contract: the base rate, the APA rider, the VAT tier, the tip policy. We cite fleet documentation and public regional rules, and we label estimates as estimates.
